Health Education Major - School Health Emphasis
Mission Statement and Objectives
The mission of School Health Education is to prepare students to become qualified, effective health educators who will assist young people, through education, to achieve a balanced level of well-being that encompasses the physical, mental, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual aspects of their lives in order that they reach their fullest potential.
The objectives of School Health Education are as follows:
- Candidates will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to assess individual and community health related needs.
- Candidates will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to plan an effective comprehensive and sequential school health education curriculum grades 7-12 and a program based on student needs, student interests, community values, and health issues. They will be familiar with instructional strategies that motivate health promotion within children and adolescence.
- Candidates will be able to successfully implement school health education curriculum grades 7-12 and programs that focus on health literacy.
- Candidates will be albe to consistently and effectively evaluate, revise, and update school health education curriculum grades 7-12 and programs.
- Candidates will be knowledgeable of health education services available within the school community and state to assist students and their families.
- Candidates will act as a resource person for health education within their school and district.
- Candidates will acquire communication skills that will enable them to effectively communicate the helath related needs and interests of students to the administration families and community.
